This section displays the descriptions associated with the concept. In the left column, you can see the description type (in the international edition of SNOMED CT: Fully Specified Name
, Synonym
, and Definition
), in the right column the description term (e.g. Acute otitis media
). Longer descriptions are presented on multiple lines. The flag on the section heading shows the currently active language dialect (here: GB English
).
Both Fully Specified Names and Synonyms have a rosette icon, which if red means that the description is preferred in the specific Language Reference Set, while a grey icon means that the description is acceptable.
Clicking on the rosette icon will change the acceptability values from preferred to acceptable and vice versa.
The Descriptions Section splits into subsections with the language preferences of different Language Reference Sets.
The name of the Language Reference Set is displayed at the top of the subsection.
There are two ways to select the relevant Language Reference Sets that a user would like to see and edit in the Concept Editor.
Locally in the Concept Editor by clicking the Filter Language Reference Sets button.
Local preferences are only set to the given concept.
Clicking on the blue triangle next to a description will display a list of actions that can be performed on the description:

The associated values in the Description inactivation indicator Reference Set are visible on the Descriptions tab of the Concept Editor.
